Supernova is a News Presenting Competition that is being organized by J’pura News by J’pura Voice of University of Sri Jayewardenepura. J’pura News by J’pura Voice is an initiative implemented by J’pura Voice, the Official Media and Broadcasting Unit of University of Sri Jayewardenepura.

Having the motto ‘The Pioneer In University News Reporting’, J’pura News by J’pura Voice became the most trusted and the most popular source of news for the community of University of Sri Jayewardenepura in a short period. Supernova is the only competition that has been organized at university level with the intention of creating great news anchors for the news presenting industry.

SUPERNOVA’ 21

Supernova ’21 which was opened for 15 state universities, wrote a great chapter in the news presenting industry with more than 300 participants from islandwide. Many recognized professionals joined hands with Supernova to judge the competition.

SUPERNOVA PHASE II

Supernova Phase II, the continuing legacy of Supernova ’21, was an Inter-University Trilingual News Presenting Competition that was opened for all the universities in Sri Lanka spreading over three main language categories, Sinhala, Tamil, and English by being Sri Lanka’s Largest Trilingual News Presenting Competition. Over 360 registrations were received from the government, semi-government and private universities encompassing all the areas of the country. Supernova Phase II was able to get registered under University of Sri Jayewardenepura and the Media Center for National Development of Sri Lanka. The competition was evaluated by three panels of judges for each language, including well-experienced experts from the field of News Presenting.

FACTS ABOUT SUPERNOVA PHASE II

Supernova Phase II mainly included News presenting competition for all undergraduates in Sri Lanka. The application window for the competition was opened for one month. After receiving submissions from more than 400 contestants, they were shortlisted and selected for the second round by the judges who are prestigious media personalities in Sri Lanka. The workshop series for all the participants was conducted in three languages by well-experienced personalities in the News Presenting field. Five competitors from each category were selected for the final round. The final round competition and awarding ceremony was held on the 19th of December 2021 at the Senate Boardroom of University of Sri Jayewardenepura. Finally, the winners were awarded at the awarding ceremony. All competitors participating in the competition were awarded a valuable certificate.
